The Rachel Collins Music Blog

For the past year I’ve been working with the lovely Emily Churchill (www.myspace.com/emilyfchurchill) at a primary school in Queens Park. To celebrate us leaving work we are playing a gig this Thursday 14th July at the Good Ship in Kilburn.

For more details check out our facebook event here: http://on.fb.me/pAnkr3

We are really lucky to have such a great line up;

Maya Yianni www.myspace.com/mayayianni will be opening the evening with some soulful, acoustic songs

Shtetle Superstars www.shtetlsuperstars.com - a brilliant klezmer/balkan/pop outfit - will be finishing off the night!

Hope you can make it xx

Acoustic EP

Over the past couple of months I’ve been recording an acoustic EP in various rooms/houses/garages and we’re very nearly finished so I’m getting more and more excited!  Many of the gigs I play are acoustic nights so I wanted a collection of recordings of the songs I play at these gigs in their different arrangements.

As well as vocals and acoustic guitar, there’s double bass in all five songs, which gives the EP a lovely feel. Such a great instrument!  All in all it’s a bit of a contrast to my last EP ‘Things To Do,’ which was a full band EP produced in an amazing studio (rather than my bedroom!) but I hope this new CD will be equally great, just in a different way.

Due to be released this summer - will keep you updated with the progress!!

January

After a wonderfully busy christmas time I know I’ve been pretty quiet this January so I thought I’d let you all know what I’ve been up to…

I’ve mainly been writing new songs for an album I’m working on & I have two brand new (very almost finished) pieces, which I promise I’ll share with u at my next gigs. I have been applying to some lovely looking UK festivals so fingers crossed I get a slot somewhere great and I also now have a new live CD of my more jazzier material, which will be released very soon.  Exciting!

I’ve decided to play acoustic smaller sets more regularly whilst continuing to have a massive full band show every few months - I’m just sorting out gigs as we speak so keep checking my website/myspace etc for dates.

Aaand finally, I have some mega good christmassy snow photos that i’ll be putting up in the next week or so, taken by the fabulous designer & photographer Susie Stone! Check her out at www.susiestone.com

Hope you’ve all had a brilliant start to 2011, roll of February…
